'Everyday Sunday' headlines Wayland's Big Weekend

PLAINVIEW – Wayland Baptist University in Plainview is bringing Everyday Sunday to the concert stage at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, March 30, in Wayland’s Harral Memorial Auditorium. Jackson Waters will open the concert which is the headline event for Wayland’s Big Weekend, March 30-31. The college preview weekend is designed to give prospective students and their parents a look at college life on the Wayland campus.

The concert is open to the public. Tickets will cost $10 and will be available at the Wayland bookstore as well as Mardel bookstore in Lubbock and LifeWay Christian Store in Lubbock and Amarillo.

Everyday Sunday sprang from a close-knit youth group in Columbus, Ohio. The group’s passion and songwriting established them as in integral part of the Columbus music scene. The group released its debut album “Sleeper” independently in 2001. They followed with the “Stand Up” CD in 2002 and “Anthems for the Imperfect” in 2004. The band will release “Wake Up, Wake Up” sometime this year.

Jackson Waters can trace its roots to John Brown University in Siloam Springs, Ark., where drummer Ryan Hawk and lead singer David Leonard got together. The group has opened for such acts as Big Daddy Weave, BarlowGirl and Thousand Foot Crutch, mixing high energy with an eclectic musical personality.

The concert is the highlight of Wayland’s Big Weekend which is open to high school juniors, seniors and college transfer students. The two-day event includes sitting in on college classes, chapel service, campus tours, games and question-and-answer sessions for students and parents with representatives from various offices on campus.

Those participating in Big Weekend will also enjoy a baseball doubleheader, late night breakfast, parent’s reception and a full slate of activities on Saturday, including scholarship auditions and tryouts for various athletic teams.
