WBU Graduate to Sign Copies of Book During Homecoming

PLAINVIEW – Kathie Turner Jackson, a 1974 graduate of Wayland Baptist University, will be signing copies of her book, “So Great a Heritage” during the weekend homecoming festivities at Wayland.

Book signings are scheduled in the University Store, located in the McClung Center, on Saturday, Feb. 24 from 9-11:30 a.m. and again from 1-2 p.m. Copies of the book will be available for purchase at that time as well.

Jackson, a teacher in Perryton, wrote the book based on a set of 150 letters written by her father, longtime Hale Center farmer Cecil Turner, to his parents during World War II. Released in mid-2006, the book is a testimony of a Christian soldier’s experiences in the war. She said she wrote the book in order to connect readers with this pivotal period of the nation’s history “so we know whom to thank for the blessings we all enjoy today.”

Jackson and her husband Mike, superintendent for the Perryton Independent School District and former superintendent in Olton, have three children, all of whom have attended Wayland. Matt graduated in 1999, and April Chancler graduated in 2005. Daughter Bekah is currently a junior at Wayland.
