Baker to bring keynote speech for women in business event
PLAINVIEW – Longtime Plainview resident Carolyn Baker will be keynote speaker for the Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) team’s Women in Business banquet slated for Aug. 30 at Wayland Baptist University.
Following a buffet meal, the banquet will also feature the presentation of the Women in Business awards for the 2007 honorees. The honor class includes Jan Alford, local State Farm agent; Sandra Aven, publisher of the Plainview Daily Herald; and Dr. Ruth Rector-Wright, family physician.
Baker is a native of Latrobe, Pa., and spent her childhood in Texline, Texas. She graduated from Texline High School and attended University of North Texas, then completed her bachelor’s degree in accounting at West Texas A&M University.
After receiving her CPA certification, she was hired at Hale County State Bank as an internal auditor in 1987. After several promotions over the years, Baker was named Executive Vice President in 1994 and still holds that position.
She and husband Tommy have a Catahoula dog named Bug.
