Craver returns to Wayland as dean of Albuquerque campus
PLAINVIEW – Del Rio pastor Dr. Ben Craver has been named dean of Wayland Baptist University’s Albuquerque Campus, effective May 1. The appointment marks a return to the WBU family, as Craver previously worked at the San Antonio campus.
Craver has served as pastor of Del Rio’s First Baptist Church since 2005 after serving as the interim pastor for a year. He served as academic advisor and recruiter at the San Antonio campus of WBU from 1999-2000 before moving into the position of Director of Institutional Advancement in San Antonio.
"Dr. Craver is experienced in the Wayland system both as an instructor and a staff member. He understands and embraces Wayland's mission and is genuinely excited about his role in the university's future in Albuquerque,” said Dr. Bobby Hall, provost. “Dr. Craver's service to both civilian and military students, coupled with his administrative experience and desire to return to the Wayland system, make us optimistic about his ability to lead the future growth and development of the Albuquerque Campus."
In addition to his staff role at WBU-San Antonio, Craver held a faculty role as Assistant Professor of Religion, moving into an adjunct role when he returned to the pastorate. He is currently teaching religion courses online through Wayland’s Virtual Campus.
Craver holds the bachelor’s degree from East Texas State University, now Texas A&M University-Commerce, and the Master of Divinity degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He earned his doctorate from Southwestern in May 1994, majoring in theology. He spent two decades pastoring in McKinney, Nevada, Justin and Wimberley, Texas before going to work for Wayland.
His past service to the Baptist General Convention of Texas includes involvement on the Christian Education Coordinating Board, the Committee to Nominate Executive Board Members and the Baptist Distinctives Committee. He is involved in the Chambers of Commerce in Del Rio and in San Antonio as well as the American Hearth Association.
Dr. Elane Seebo, associate vice president for external campuses, expressed her confidence in Craver’s new role.
"We're excited to have Dr. Ben Craver return to the Wayland family,” she said. “Dr. Craver brings with him a wealth of talent, familiarity with our Wayland system and its external campuses and a long-term commitment to our Wayland ideals. It's wonderful that he's just as excited about returning to Wayland as we are to have him rejoin us."
