Lubbock pastor to give December commencement address
PLAINVIEW – Dr. Bobby Dagnel, pastor of the First Baptist Church in Lubbock, will bring the commencement address for the Dec. 16 graduation ceremony at Wayland Baptist University in Plainview.
Approximately 60 students will receive diplomas during the 2 p.m. ceremony, to be held in Harral Auditorium. Rohan Thompson, a graduating marketing and management major from Bridgetown, Barbados, will give the student address, and other students will lead prayers, read scripture, lead a hymn and the Alma Mater and present musical selections. In addition, highest ranking graduates will be honored during the ceremony.
Rev. Dagnel has served as pastor at FBC Lubbock since 2002, coming to West Texas from a seven-year stint as pastor in Nederland. He also served as pastor in Hemphill, Texas; was minister of business administration and Outreach at FBC in Tuscaloosa, Ala., and assistant minister of recreation at Green Acres Baptist Church in Tyler, Texas.
He holds the Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of Texas at Tyler and a Master of Divinity degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth. He earned the Doctor of Ministry degree from Truett Seminary in Waco in 2005.
Dagnel serves on the Board of Regents at Baylor University and the board of advisors for Baylor’s Center for Ministry Effectiveness, and he has served on the executive board and nominating committee for the executive board for the Baptist General Convention of Texas. He has also served on the advisory board of the Texas Baptist Leadership Center, the BGCT Strategic Planning Committee and the subcommittee to nominate Baylor Regents.
He has been involved in community service endeavors in various cities, has written Bible studies for the Baptist Standard and is a contributing writer to Basic Student Ministry in the Kingdom-Focused Church, published by Lifeway Press. Dagnel and his wife, Patti, have a daughter, Courtney, and a son, Hunter.
