Community Classroom offering computer classes for fall


PLAINVIEW – The Community Classroom at Wayland Baptist University will offer several classes this fall for individuals to increase their knowledge in computer software.

Classes cover everything from basic computer usage to specific training in Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, Publisher and PowerPoint. Other classes provide certification training in various aspects of computer usage.

The schedule of classes is as follows:

Access – Sept. 25, 28, Oct. 2 and 5; 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.; $120, $90 for ages 60+. Covers the software to set up databases and create queries for lists.

Beginning Computers – Sept. 11, 12 and 14, 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.; $90, $75 for ages 60+. Covers basic computer use and operation.

Excel – Sept. 11, 14, 18 and 21; 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.; $120, $90 for ages 60+. Covers the creation of spreadsheets and functions within for recordkeeping, mail merge projects, etc.

File Management – Oct. 2 and 3; 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.; $60, $50 for ages 60+.

Outlook – Oct. 9, 12; 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.; $60, $50 for ages 60+. Covers the email and scheduling software.

PowerPoint – Oct. 9, 10 and 12; 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.; $90, $75 for ages 60+. Covers software creating electronic slide show presentations.

Publisher – Nov. 13 and 16; 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.; $60, $50 for ages 60+. Covers software to create brochures, postcards and other printed pieces.

Word – Sept. 18, 19, 21, 25, 26 and 28; 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.; $180, $150 for ages 60+. Covers the word processing program and its functions.

Linux Operating System – Oct. 7 – Nov. 4, Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; $600, includes textbook and fee for online test. Class covers the Linux system and prepares individuals to troubleshoot using the system. The class culminates in a certification exam. Offered at the Lubbock campus, located at 2002 West Loop 289.

CompTia A+ Operating System Certification – Aug. 26 – Sept. 30, Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; $600, includes textbook and online test fee. Second of two-part course to certify individuals in computer repair and troubleshooting. Offered at the Lubbock campus.
