Wayland sets registration for AFA season
PLAINVIEW -- Wayland Baptist University’s Academy of Fine Arts (AFA) will hold registration on Tuesday, Aug. 15, from 3-7 p.m. in the south hall of Harral Auditorium.
The AFA is designed to give interested students instruction in voice, piano, brass, woodwinds, guitar, art and theatre in either class settings or private lessons. The AFA will also offer the international Kindermusik program under the direction of Jennie Lynn Hodges. It will be her second year to teach the course to students ages 5-7.
Kindermusik International is a program designed to encourage young children and parents to explore music. The program bases its curricula on proven research in child development, combining music and movement to teach not only the child, but parents as well. The program is being used by more than 5 million licensed educators in 35 countries.
Hodges will also be teaching vocal technique classes for students in grades 3 through 12. These lessons will be taught in classes of 8-12 students. Each class will include training in vocal technique, sight-singing and repertoire development.
For more information on the Kindermusik or vocal technique classes, contact Hodges at 296-0770.
Debbie Flournoy, director of vocal music education at Wayland, will offer a children’s chorus for students ages 8-11. Audition will be held and students will be required to match basic pitch and rhythm and show evidence of basic music training.
The children’s chorus will perform formal and informal concerts throughout the Plainview area.
The AFA will also teach a new slate of art classes under the direction of Jay Coleman and supervised by Wayland art professor Dr. Candace Keller.
The cost for private lessons is $150 for semester ($12.50 per lesson). Enrollment cost for classes will vary, depending on the profile of the class. Classes begin Tuesday, Sept. 5. Interested participants should register early so teacher can prepare accordingly.
