Wayland serving as entrance exam testing center

PLAINVIEW -- Wayland Baptist University is an official test site for the college entrance examinations most commonly required by universities. Coordinated by Donna Wiley in the office of student development, the tests are administered locally to provide convenient access for area students.

The university offers the ACT, SAT and THEA tests in Gates Hall, the main administration building, and all tests are offered on a Saturday. Registration for the exams is not done through Wayland but through the national testing offices, following the procedures below:

  • Students may register for the ACT test online at www.actstudent.org, choosing Wayland Baptist University as their test site and choosing the date desired to test. A registration packet may also be obtained through most high school counselors. The test costs $29 for the basic version and $43 for the test including writing. Registration deadlines are typically at least a month before the test date, but late registration is often available for an additional $18 fee. Standby registration for those who miss the late registration deadline and hope to test at a particular site is an additional $36 fee. Wayland offers the ACT on Dec. 10, 2005, Feb. 11, 2006, April 8, 2006, and June 10, 2006.
  • Students may register for the SAT online at www.collegeboard.com. The test costs $41.50 for the basic reasoning portion, with additional subject tests available for $18 each that can help in college placement. Registration deadlines are about a month and a half before the test date, with late registration available for two weeks afterward for an additional $21 fee. A standby fee of $36 is also available for students wishing to attempt to test after the late registration deadline. Wayland offers the SAT on Dec. 3, 2005, and June 3, 2006, with subject tests available at those dates as well.
  • Students may register for the THEA (Texas Higher Education Assessment) test online at www.thea.nesinc.com or by mail or phone. A registration packet is available through high school counselors. The test costs $29. Registration deadlines are about a month before the test date, with late registration periods for the following three weeks. Late registration requires an additional $20 fee, and emergency registration (for the week prior to the testing) is an additional $30 fee. Wayland offers the THEA on April 22, 2006.

All college entrance exams offer the option of sending score results to universities of interest, with the number of free mailings varying by exam. Additional scores may be sent for additional fees. Additional fees are also charged for changing test dates and other registration issues.
