Plainview native takes Miss Wayland crown
PLAINVIEW -- Alpha Jennings, a senior business administration major from Plainview, was named Miss Wayland 2005 after the annual pageant held Friday at Wayland Baptist University.
The daughter of Edward and Marilyn Jennings of Plainview, both graduates of Wayland, Alpha is studying accounting and hopes to one day open a chain of beauty colleges and salons. She is a licensed cosmetologist as well and enjoys watercolor painting.
At Wayland, Jennings serves as president of Zeta Zeta Zeta, a service sorority, and is a member of the Student Union Board. She presented a dramatic monologue for her talent.
Britany Lewis, a senior from Borger, was named first runner-up for the pageant. Lewis is a secondary education major, specializing in speech, and is the daughter of D. Jay and Cindy Lewis. She was represented by Student Foundation, of which she is a member, and is also involved in Student Ministries, Alpha Delta Kappa Christian service sorority and Kappa Delta Pi education honor society.
Ragan Spradling, a senior from Amarillo, was second runner-up in the pageant. Representing Students in Free Enterprise business organization, Spradling is a business major who hopes to attend law school and begin her own clothing line. The daughter of Kel and John Spradling, Ragan is president of the senior class and secretary for SIFE.
Rounding out the top five were Anna Romersberger, a junior from Fairbanks, Alaska, and Crystal Holloway, a junior from Carrizo Springs.
At a reception held following the pageant, several additional awards were presented. Romersberger received the award for Best Evening Gown, with Holloway named Best Talent. Jennifer Brigman, a senior from Eula, earned the award for Best Interview. Consuelo Salazar, a sophomore from Plainview, was named Miss Congeniality.
Miss Wayland serves as an ambassador for the university, making several appearances at service organizations, churches and university events throughout her year-long reign. She receives a scholarship and a prize package from local businesses. She is also responsible for helping to organize the next year's pageant.
