Gold Rush Preview offers quick look at Wayland
PLAINVIEW – Wayland Baptist University’s office of admissions will host a one-day preview event, Gold Rush, on Nov. 13 to provide information, tours and a taste of student life to prospective students.
The event is geared toward high school juniors or seniors as well as current college students pursuing transfer options, but all students and parents are welcome to attend. The one-day format is a shortened version of Wayland’s Big Weekend preview event held in the spring, specifically April 1-2, 2005.
Gold Rush kicks off at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 13, with registration and continental breakfast in the multipurpose room of the Mabee Learning Resources Center. Information sessions begin at 9 a.m., with a university overview, financial aid information and academic opportunities presented.
At 11:15, mock classes will be held at several locations around campus, offering students the chance to sit in on a college lecture with Wayland professors. Lunch follows at 11:45, featuring an information fair, a brief concert and drawings for door prizes and scholarships. A session specifically for high school seniors and transfer students will be held at 12:30 p.m. in room 211 of the University Center.
A doubleheader basketball game is on tap for the afternoon, with the Flying Queens taking on Huston-Tillotson College at 1 p.m. and the Pioneers taking on Huston-Tillotson at 3 p.m., both in Hutcherson Center. Campus tours will be available during the afternoon, and audition opportunities for music, theatre and art will be held at 1:30 p.m. in the Harral Auditorium complex.
To round out the day, visiting students can enjoy Wayland Theatre’s production of Approaching Zanzibar, beginning at 8 p.m. in the Harral Studio Theatre. Tickets for the show are $8 for adults and $4 for students, in addition to the cost of Gold Rush.
Cost for the Gold Rush preview is $7 per person for students or parents. Registration for the day can be done by phone at (806) 291-3500 or on the Wayland Web site at www.wbu.edu.
