Music faculty join forces for recital

PLAINVIEW - Dr. Carl Moman, professor of music at Wayland Baptist University and a tenor, and Mark Anthony Pair, piano artist-in-residence at Wayland, will join forces for a faculty recital featuring the music of Ludwig van Beethoven on March 9.

The recital will be held in Harral Auditorium beginning at 7:30 p.m. Music to be featured includes "Adelaide," "Six Sacred Songs" on poems by Gellert, and the song cycle "To the Distant Beloved," all sung in English. Pair will also play the piano sonata in C Minor, Opus 13, also titled "Pathetique."

At Wayland since 1987, Moman is Shaw Endowed Professor of Music and has previously served as chair of the music and later fine arts divisions in addition to teaching responsibilities.

Before receiving the appointment as piano artist in residence in 2003, Pair was associate professor of music at Wayland for more than 35 years. The two have collaborated on faculty recitals three other times, featuring the music of Schumann and Beethoven in the 1980s and 90s.

The recital is free and open to the public.
