Logsdon dean to speak at WBU commencement

PLAINVIEW - Dr. Tommy Brisco, dean of the Logsdon School of Theology, will bring the commencement address at Wayland Baptist University at the ceremony slated for May 1 at 2 p.m. in Harral Memorial Auditorium.

A native of Arkansas, Brisco has served as Logsdon's dean since 2003, previously serving as Professor of Religion at Baylor University and at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He also served in the pastorate for several years during and after his undergraduate degree work and has served as interim pastor for several congregations.

Brisco holds the bachelor's degree in religion from Ouachita Baptist University in Arkansas, and the Master of Divinity and Doctor of Philosophy degrees from Southwestern Seminary. With an interest in Biblical backgrounds and archaeology, Brisco has worked with excavations in Tel Aphek and Tel Batash in Israel as well as in Texas and New Mexico and has lectured on numerous trips Israel, Egypt, Jordan, Greece, Turkey and Italy. Brisco also has served as an archaeological consultant for the Biblical Illustrator magazine during a photographic expedition throughout the Middle East and Italy.

He authored The Holman Bible Atlas, published in 1998, earning a Gold Medallion Book Award from the Evangelical Christian Publishers Association. He is currently under contract to author The Illustrated World of the Prophets for Broadman and Holman Press. He has also had many articles published in periodicals including the Biblical Illustrator and the Southwestern Journal of Theology and has presented at many conferences.

Approximately 75 students will receive degrees during the ceremony, both on the graduate and undergraduate level. Chris Currah, a senior from Lander, Wyo., will serve as senior class speaker.
