Film colloquium series features Holocaust survivors

PLAINVIEW - Dr. Estelle Owens, professor of history at Wayland Baptist University, will be the guest presenter of the documentary "Survivors of the Holocaust," the next feature in Wayland's film colloquium series, set for Monday, Oct. 27, at 6:30 p.m. in Nunn Business Building auditorium.

Admission is free and the event is open to the public.

The film features stories of the Holocaust and its survivors, with appearances by Steven Spielberg, who directed the Academy Award-winning movie "Schindler's List." Survivors of Hitler's reign of terror and the atrocities of the Third Reich discuss their haunting, terrifying memories. Photographs and archival footage provide direct images of this past and chronicle the historical events that led to the deaths of six million Jews and others considered "undesirable" by the Nazis.

Actor Ben Kingsley goes behind the scenes at Survivors of the SHOAH History Foundation, an organization dedicated to making sure this act of genocide is not forgotten nor repeated.

The film is 90 minutes long, and a discussion led by Owens will follow the film. The film is not rated for viewing audiences but contains graphic material that may not be suited for very young children.
