WBU hosts MusiConference
PLAINVIEW - Wayland Baptist University is hosting the third annual Church MusiConference this Friday and Saturday, July 25-26.
This is the first year that Wayland is the official sponsor of the event which is held in cooperation with the Baptist General Convention of Texas. In past years, several conferences have been held in various regions. This year, however, this is the only regional Baptist church music conference in the state.
More than 100 participants are expected for the event, with approximately 90 pre-registered. The cost is $50 per person and pre-registration is ongoing with an official registration time set for 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on Friday in the music wing of Harral Auditorium. Classes begin at 1 p.m. Friday and will be held from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on Saturday.
Classes will be offered for children's and youth choir leaders, handbell leaders, accompanists, drama leaders and technical/media personnel as well as bi-vocational/part-time ministers of music and full-time ministers of music. The conference is open to anyone interested in these areas.
There will also be a reading session of new choral music by several publishers at 4:30 p.m. Friday. Packets of new music will be on sale for $12.
A banquet will also be held Friday evening with entertainment provided by "Quiet Praise," a flute and harp duo. Dr. Tim Studstill, director of church music for the BGCT, will speak at the banquet. "Ragin Cajun" humorist Wayne Keller will be a guest speaker during the conference.
