Wayland music students to present senior recitals

Three graduating music students will be presenting their senior recitals this weekend at Wayland Baptist University. Both events are free and open to the public.

Husband and wife musicians Jared and Carla Douglas Hardy will host a joint recital on Friday, Nov. 8, at 7:30 p.m. in Harral Memorial Auditorium. Both vocalists, the Hardys will be presenting a number of musical pieces from operas including "Don Giovanni" and "Carmen" as well as other pieces.

The son of Mark and Bonnie Hardy of Lubbock, Jared is working toward bachelor of music in music education and church music. He is a baritone. Carla, the daughter of Larry and Laura Douglas of Breckenridge, is working toward a bachelor of arts degree in music. She is a soprano. Jennie Lynn Hodges, associate professor of music at Wayland, is private instructor for both students. Hodges will also accompany the couple during the recital.

Samantha Jones of Mesquite will present her senior recital on the French horn on Saturday, Nov. 9, at 7:30 p.m. in Harral Auditorium. The daughter of Carolina and Alan Crowley, Jones is an instrumental music education major. Don Summersgill is her private instructor.

Jones' recital will feature a concerto by Strauss, a sonata by Beethoven, a prelude by Bach, and a modern sonata by Joachim Dietrich Link. She will also be featured in a quintet performance of "Frere Jacques," including fellow Wayland music students Chris Lethgo, Justin Ogden and James Moss, and George James of Floydada.
