WIN TV to provide programming from FamilyNet

Wayland Baptist University's campus TV station, WIN-TV 6, has become an affiliate of FamilyNet television. The channel will feature a new programming line-up as of Sept. 4. A channel listing is available on-line at or by calling the TV station at 291-1090.

WIN TV6 is owned and operated by Wayland and serves the community with family-oriented and Christian programming. The station had been an affiliate of the ACTS television system since its inception in 1984. Hallmark recently completed acquisition of the network and altered their local insertion agreements according to Steve Long, Director of Radio and TV at Wayland.

"Hallmark does not want local insertions, except for one early morning hour each day," Long said. "We are committed to providing the local church services of First Baptist Church of Plainview as well as Jackson Chapel of Tulia on the channel each week. We also are committed to showing the Mayor's Talk To Your City and other important community TV shows. Hallmark said no."

FamilyNet is owned and operated by the Southern Baptist Convention and is broadcast from their facilities in Fort Worth. The network produces over 50 hours of family-oriented programs each week. Programs include The Nana Puddin' Show, for children, Al Denson's Studio 828, for youth, and Home Life, for families.

"I know that FamilyNet will provide of broad spectrum of appealing programming for all ages," Long said. "And I hope that everyone will see that this is a positive change for Plainview television."

Long also said that Cox Cable plans to put the Hallmark channel on another channel in the near future.
