Wayland welcomes new financial aid director

Wayland Baptist University has named Bob Womack as the new Director of Financial Aid at the Plainview campus. He began work Oct. 3.

Womack brings several years of experience in the field. He worked at the University of Central Arkansas in Conway, where he served as assistant director of financial aid for 15 years. He also was director of financial aid at Williams Baptist College in Walnut Ridge, Ark. for 10 years and worked one year at LeTourneau University in Longview.

Womack has a bachelor's degree in business and a master's degree in employment counseling from the University of Central Arkansas. He also attended East Arkansas Community College.

Working with university students in financial aid is something Womack feels is a special calling he began to see as a student himself.

"When I went away to college, I was able to work my way through school," he said.

"But I saw lots of students who really needed that financial aid. (During his career) I saw a lot of young ministers who had been working and were making a life change to go into the ministry. Helping them get aid was a ministry for me."

"Sometimes it meant going the extra mile but it was worth it to see them cross the stage and graduate."

During his career, Womack has also worked either bivocationally or as a volunteer in lay youth ministry, serving at several Southern Baptist churches in Arkansas and Texas.

Womack and his wife Janet have two married children, Robert and Tonya Womack of Walnut Ridge and Audra and Nathaniel Keen of Conway, and one grandchild, Malachi Keen. His hobbies are hunting, fishing and photography
