Conner to speak at Wayland's commencement ceremony
Dr. Stacy Conner, pastor of First Baptist Church in Muleshoe, will be the keynote speaker at the 84th Commencement Ceremony for Wayland Baptist University, slated for 2 p.m. on May 19.
Conner, a 1985 Wayland graduate, has been senior pastor at the Muleshoe church since 1991. He received his Master of Divinity degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1988 and his Doctor of Ministry degree from Brite Divinity School at Texas Christian University in 1998.
A native of Lubbock, Conner has also served the pastorate at First Baptist Church in Matador and was Minister of Activities at First Baptist Church in Plainview while earning his degree at Wayland. He has been involved with the Caprock-Plains Baptist Area, serving on the Area Board and the Director of Missions Search Committee. He was also Pastoral Care Director for the Llanos Altos Association and served on the Executive Board for the Baptist General Convention of Texas. He has served for several years with the BGCT's Christian Education Coordinating Board, holding the vice-chairmanship for one year.
Conner is active in community events as well, including the Muleshoe Lions Club, the Bailey County Ministerial Alliance, the Muleshoe Independent School District Community Affairs Council and the Campus and Community Forum, the Muleshoe Rotary Club, the Little League Board of Directors and Little League Coach. He has given two commencement addresses for high schools.
He has also had three articles published in the Word and Witness Journal for Preaching and wrote the Family Bible Study Commentary for the Baptist Standard from December 1999-May 2000. Conner and his wife Debbie have a daughter, Charissa, and two sons, Timothy and Caleb.
