Office technology program participants to receive completion certificates
Twelve local students were honored Friday night by Wayland Baptist University's Lifelong Learning Center for completing the office technology program.
The year-long program covers various aspects of office technology, from secretarial procedures and commonly-used computer software to business communications and machines and accounting. Courses are designed to prepare participants for careers as receptionists, accounting assistants, secretaries and other clerical positions.
Receiving certificates of completion during the 7 p.m. program held in Nunn Business Building Auditorium were Cecilia Castillo Alcantara, Kathy Batey, Katheryn Cozby, Leslie Delgado, Donna Gomez, Alisa Jimenez, Janet McCaleb, Arasely Ramirez, Carol Richardson, Connie Smith, Elba Tijerina and Rose Marie Urbina.
Brian McClenagan, Coordinator of Counseling and Career Planning at Wayland was guest speaker for the ceremony. Horace Abbott, pastor of Trinity United Methodist Church, gave a brief devotional.
LLC Director Amelia Cline presented a special award to Janet McCaleb, who completed the office technology program with a 97 average. Office technology instructors include Elmo Cowart, a retired faculty member of the Division of Business at Wayland; Virginia Rogers, LLC secretary and lab assistant for South Plains College Plainview; Charlotte Schumacher, administrative assistant in the Division of Business; and Donna Womble, coordinator/instructor for the LVN program at SPC Plainview.
