PLAINVIEW – Kids who want to see Santa Claus after Plainview’s annual Christmas parade need to bring their parents to “Lighting Up Wayland” because that is where the jolly ole elf plans to be.
“Lighting Up Wayland” takes place from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in front of historic Gates Hall on Wayland Baptist University’s Plainview campus. The address for the post-parade festivities is 1900 West Seventh St.
“Just follow Santa to the steps of historic Gates Hall,” advises university officials, noting “Lighting Up Wayland” is a post-Christmas parade party for the community. “There is going to be plenty of fun, food, and fellowship in Gates Circle.”
In addition to St. Nick making a guest appearance, there will be free food and Christmas cookies plus a faculty and staff choir will lead the singing of Christmas carols. “Door prizes will be given away, so come early to register,” Wayland officials said. “You must be present to win one of these fantastic prizes.”
The Wayland tradition of the President reading the Christmas story from the Bible before the lighting of Wayland takes place continues with Dr. Bobby Hall. The President said he looks forward to again sharing the Christmas story with the community as well as the Wayland family.
Once the lights come on, Santa will be available for photos, and there will be lots of other photo opportunities as Wayland and Greater Plainview community come together to celebrate Christmas. The lighted Gates Hall serves as a perfect holiday backdrop for photos with family and friends.
“Celebrate the moment when Gates Hall is lit with holiday décor,” university officials said.” It’s a moment folks won’t want to miss as this Wayland Christmas tradition continues.”
