Deadline approaches for securing Jimmy Dean Music and Arts Festival spaces

PLAINVIEW – With the Jimmy Dean Music and Arts Festival less than a month away, vendors and food truck operators need to act now to secure their spaces inside or outside the Pete and Nelda Laney Student Activities Center.

The festival is slated for Sept. 16 on Wayland Baptist University’s Plainview campus, but the deadline to secure vendor and food truck spaces is just days away — Sept. 1.

“There has been lots interest this year as the festival continues to grow,” said Amber McCloud, the event co-chair representing Wayland. “More than 1,000 people attended last year, checking out vendors, enjoying great food and then enjoying great entertainment. We are expecting even more this year.”

“We loaded up the place with vendors last year and had people wanting to set up outside. So, this year we’ve got spaces available inside and outside,” said Melcher, the event co-chair representing the Plainview community.

The arts and crafts portion of the day-long festival takes place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. inside Laney Student Activities Center as well as in the grassy area and parking lot south of the center. Vendor booths are $50 for a 10’x10’ space, while food truck and food booths are $75 for a variety of different sizes.

“I guess we need to remind folks that spaces are limited,” McCloud said. “We’ve got premium spots available, inside, outside and on the parking lot.”

Melcher noted that securing vendor or food truck spaces is easy.

“Just go to JimmyDeanFestival.com and click on the ‘Vendors’ tab at the top,” Melcher said. “On the page that pops up, click on the ‘Register for a Booth’ button and you are on your way to selecting your spot. It’s easy, but you better do it now.”

After the arts and crafts portion closes at 3 p.m., the Jimmy Dean Music and Arts Festival concludes with a top-notch double-band concert featuring Asleep at the Wheel with special guests, Bob Wills’ Texas Playboys under the direction of Jason Roberts.

“It’s really two concerts in one,” McCloud said. “Plus, we have a local warm-up band and non-stop music outside all day.”

In between the arts and crafts fair and the concert — from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m., Plainview Lions Club will be serving burgers, chips, and drinks in the Laney Activities Center parking lots. Tickets will be sold at the event.
