PLAINVIEW – Steve Burrus and friends have joined the line-up for the Jimmy Dean Music and Arts Festival finale — a star-studded country music concert on Saturday, Sept. 16 at Wayland’s Harral Auditorium.
The Jimmy Dean Music and Arts Festival wraps up on the Plainview campus with a general admission concert that officially starts at 7 p.m. with doors opening at 6 p.m. Sponsored by Smith Family Auto, the concert features legendary Western swing band Asleep at the Wheel with special guests, Bob Wills’ Texas Playboys under the direction of Jason Roberts. “For those who bought tickets while we were billing this as two bands for one price, you just got a bonus. Three bands for one price” said Mike Melcher, event co-chair representing the community. “For those who haven’t bought tickets yet, you have another incentive to go to jimmydeanfestival.com to order your tickets.”
“You don’t want to be outside buying tickets while Steve Burrus and friends are already raising the roof inside,” Melcher continued. “Order tickets now so you can come early, get the best seats, and then listen to even more great music.”
Steve Burrus and friends are back by demand, having been featured at the previous Jimmy Dean Music and Arts Festival concerts. The Saturday night concert is the finale of the day-long celebration that includes a free arts-and-crafts fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., lots of good food, and fabulous family fun.
Plainview Civic Music Association has lined up local cover artists to perform outside during the day. McKinley Whalen, Kevin and Duncan Sweeney, and JoJo DiSalvo are among the scheduled performers.
The arts-and-crafts fair features arts, crafts and more. Because the fair continues to grow, it’s spilling outside of Laney Student Activities Center. There will be booths inside and outside on the grassy areas.
“Whether choosing an air-conditioned space inside or a naturally breezy outdoor spot, the price is only $50 per 10x10 vendor space,” said Amber McCloud, event co-chair representing Wayland Baptist University. “Food trucks and food trailers pay only $75 for each space.”
With free admission, live entertainment, lots of artisans and vendors, and a variety of food trucks and trailers, the arts-and-crafts fair is expected to draw a multitude of people from throughout the region.
Festival organizers also announced this week that the Plainview Lions Club Hamburger Cookout Dinner will be a part of the Jimmy Dean Music and Arts Festival. From 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m., Plainview Lions Club members will be serving burgers in the parking lot between Laney Student Activities Center, where the arts-and-crafts fair takes place, and Harral Auditorium, where Steve Burrus and friends will kick off the concert featuring Asleep at the Wheel with special guests, Bob Wills’ Texas Playboys under the direction of Jason Roberts.
