American Watercolor Society exhibit opens at Wayland’s Abraham Art Gallery

PLAINVIEW – Wayland Baptist University’s Abraham Art Gallery has opened the 2023-2024 season with the American Watercolor Society 155th International Awards Exhibition.

The exhibit is open to the public through Sept. 16 and features works by award-winning artists from around the world. The gallery is part of the Malouf Abraham Family Art Center inside Mabee Learning Resources Center on the Plainview campus. Summer gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., on Friday. Regular hours resume in August, when the gallery also will be open on Saturday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

American Watercolor Society was established in 1866 as a nonprofit organization to promote watercolor painting across the nation. Today, AWS accepts all international watercolor artists for the prestigious annual juried exhibition. Styles on display range from abstract and nonrepresentational to traditional realism using primarily pure watercolor, but also acrylic and gouache.

Catalogs of all awarded artworks for the AWS 155th International Awards Exhibition are available at the gallery desk for a $20 donation to Wayland’s Art Scholarship Fund.
