Asleep at the Wheel tickets go on sale

The concert, part of the third annual Jimmy Dean Music & Arts Festival, is set for 7 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 16 at Harral Auditorium on the Wayland Baptist University campus. The 900-plus venue is across the parking lot from Laney Center, where the day-long festival takes place. General Admission tickets are $40.

“This is one ticket for two legendary Western swing bands. We’re talking hours of incredible music. So, you better get your tickets early,” said Amber McCloud, who represents Wayland as an event co-chair.”

“You don’t usually find this caliber of entertainment in Plainview, so expect folks to snatch up seats quickly,” said Mike Melcher, who represents the community as another event co-chair.

After more than 50 years on the road, Asleep at the Wheel remains a top draw, especially among those who appreciate Western swing music. Fans continue to flock to see Asleep at the Wheel, which has produced more than 30 albums and racked up 10 Grammy awards while logging millions of miles on the road.

Through the years, Asleep at the Wheel has collaborated on records with genre-spanning friends, including Willie Nelson on their 2009 Grammy nominated Willie and the Wheel. Other critically acclaimed artists who have collaborated with the band include Brad Paisley, Jamey Johnson, Merle Haggard, George Strait, the Avett Brothers, Amos Lee, and Old Crow Medicine Show, as well as Lyle Lovett on Still the King, their 2015 critically acclaimed and Grammy-winning tribute to Bob Wills.

Asleep at the Wheel represents an important cornerstone of American roots music, even though some members of the band and some members of their audiences represent a new generation. The same can be said about Jason Roberts and the Texas Playboys.
