PLAINVIEW – Wayland Baptist University celebrates 25 years of offering online classes as a service to traditional and non-traditional students.
A pioneer of online education, Wayland offered MISM-4303-Business Information System and MISM 3325-Cyberlife in 1998. The courses launched a quarter century of online education that continues as Wayland provides high-quality classes to students seeking convenient options for obtaining a degree.
“We are incredibly proud to celebrate the 25th anniversary of our online,” said Dr. David Bishop, Vice President of External Campuses. “Our commitment to providing a flexible and convenient education to our students remains as strong as ever as demonstrated by our new online degree programs, and we look forward to continuing to serve our community for many years to come.”
Back in 1998, Wayland officials introduced the new way of taking college-level classes by stating, “To take full advantage of the varied opportunities in today’s rapidly changing world, you must be knowledgeable about computers and information technology. In the past, time constraints prevented many people from driving to campus to take a college course. Today, Wayland Baptist University delivers the course to you, allowing you to learn anytime, anywhere.”
“Via computer, you can gain the knowledge you need through Wayland’s interactive online education program,” the university announced. “From your home, office, or other location you will have access to an electronic classroom open seven days a week, 24 hours a day. Wayland offers education to fit your schedule through courses designed to allow you to choose your own study time.”
A lot has changed in the way courses are delivered online, but what hasn’t changed is Wayland’s commitment to pioneer academic excellence and innovation. With a wide range of undergraduate and graduate degree programs available online and in person, students can choose from a variety of fields such as business, education, nursing, criminal justice, and more.
The addition of online classes boosted one of the most unique programs offered through the years at Wayland — the Bachelor of Applied Science degree. Enhanced by the university pioneering online education, the BAS degree program provides a way for students to earn college credits for full-time employment, military service, technical training, and other non-traditional learning experiences. Already a great degree program for non-traditional students to further their education and gain valuable skills to help them succeed in their career, the addition of a full array of online classes has made it easier for an adult learner to earn their degree.
Wayland continues to pioneer online education with new programs like the recently approved RN to BSN online degree. The program allows nurses holding RN certification an opportunity to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree in less than one year while extending the global reach of Wayland’s San Antonio-based School of Nursing. The RN to BSN online degree is one of 26 recently approved academic programs, including many with online components.
