PLAINVIEW – Wayland Baptist University is helping 2022 high school graduates claim their share of billions of dollars in unclaimed free college aid.
High school graduates have left $3.38 billion worth of need-based Pell Grant money on the table this year, according to a recent NerdWallet report. But Wayland officials say it’s not too late for eligible students who missed out to claim their share of the free money — an average of $4,686 per student, according to the National College Attainment Network. The deadline for filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) for the current school year is June 30, and WBU makes it easy for students to apply.
“At Wayland, we are committed to making our private Christian education within reach for students and their families,” said Christy Miller, Executive Director of Financial Aid. “To that end, our knowledgeable professionals in the Office of Financial Aid will work closely with you to explore every possible financial aid option, including securing grants and scholarships that don’t need to be repaid.”
Miller explained that FAFSA is used to evaluate eligibility for federal, state, and institutional need-based financial aid and is much easier than most people think. The State of Texas has made FAFSA a graduation requirement for high school seniors to encourage completion. All students should visit www.wbu.edu/finaid and click on “Apply for Financial Aid” for step-by-step guidance on the process at WBU. Students complete the FAFSA online at studentaid.gov.
According to the NerdWallet report, 44 percent of 2022 high school graduates skipped the FAFSA. That’s why Wayland is encouraging students check out the resources available to them.
“We’re here to help guide you through the process,” Miller said.
