PLAINVIEW - The School of Business at Wayland Baptist University is looking for a few good ideas from entrepreneurs to feature in its NexGen Spark business accelerator.
NexGen Spark is a partnership between Plainview, Hale County and Wayland to generate business ideas and build them into viable, competitive businesses through education and competition. The Hale County Economic Development Corporation sponsors the competition that will award $5,000 in prizes.
Currently, the program simply needs business ideas and proposals. Any budding entrepreneur or current business owner who has an idea to create a new business or build onto an existing business is encouraged to submit that idea for review to Dr. Charles Starnes, associate dean of the School of Business and professor of economics. Starnes will review the proposals and choose the ones that will be used for the education portion of the competition.
Teams of students will work with the entrepreneur who submitted the proposal to develop a working business model. The teams will then present their proposals to a panel of judges who will decide which proposal has the best chance to succeed. The winner will receive $5,000 to use toward developing the business.
Students will receive course credit for their work on the projects. A cash prize will also be awarded to members of the winning student team.
To submit a business idea, contact Dr. Starnes at 806-291-1027 or by email at starnesc@wbu.edu.
Submission need to be made as quickly as possible as classes have already formed and students are beginning preliminary background education prior to working on the proposals.
