The Controller oversees the activities and daily operations of the Business Office for timely and accurate maintenance of the general ledger and all employees are up to date in there work responsibilities.



1. Maintain financial management systems and internal controls; required to ensure that University assets are safeguarded and that accounts are appropriately maintained in order to ensure accurate financial data.

2. Oversees the activities of the Accounts Payable Department; issuing timely and accurate payments to vendors who provide goods and services to the University.

3. Ensures that Federal Financial Assistance programs are managed in compliance with laws and regulations.

4. Ensures payroll transactions are recorded in accordance with approved budgets; reviewing and approving payroll reports submitted to the Federal Government.

5. Supervises the Cashiering and Business Services Department; reviewing financial transactions and entries posted to the general ledger.

6. Oversees the posting of Accounts Receivable; making sure that the accounts are collected on a timely basis each month.

7. Monitors student workers employed by the Business Office.  Assigns them daily and long-term tasks, and supervise their execution of these tasks.  Maintains paperwork pertaining to their employment, especially that concerns payroll.

8. Responsible for resolving Business Office issues such as student/parents and personnel issues in accordance with University policy and procedures.

9. Responsible to manage the promoting of quality service and excellence in the handling of duties and solving problems.

10. Responsible to assist the CFO and Director of Human Resources in the recruitment of qualified full-time and part-time staff and the submission of appropriate hiring documentation.

11. Responsible to participate in appropriate community events and promoting the Business Office.

Qualifications to perform this job successfully: an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  Must have a commitment to our mission as a Baptist, residential, liberal arts university.

1. B.B.A. or B.S. in Accounting.

2. CPA a plus

    Experience &  Knowledge:

1. Five years of business office supervisory experience preferably in a higher education institution.

2. Must have knowledge of computers; great plus if applicant has understanding of Great Plains and Power Campus software.

Skills & Abilities:

1. Extensive knowledge of higher education institutions, financial regulations and guidelines.

2. Complete understanding of all Federal and State regulations pertaining to financial records

3. Complete understanding of National Association of Colleges and Universities, Business Officers and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles for Fund accounting reporting.

     Additional Requirements:
Must be able to pass background check which may include Credit Check.
