About this Program

For students interested in studying British literature at the graduate level, the British literature specialization offers graduate preparation specific to the culture and literature of Great Britain.

Courses in this specialization develop critical thinking, cultural awareness, and the ability to work creatively in a variety of environments related to public relations, teaching, the legal field, writing, and research.

This degree surveys Colonial and Postcolonial Literature, Medieval literatures, British Renaissance and Early 17th Century Literature, Restoration and 18th Century Literature, 19th and 20th Century Literature, and Shakespeare’s writings.

The British literature degree is a specialization of the Bachelor of Arts in English, which requires 37 hours in a student’s major field of study and a maintained major GPA of at least a 3.0. This degree plan further requires that 18 hours of an English major’s study are in British literatures.

Requirements

A Bachelor of Arts degree in English: British Literature requires 124 course hours. A total of 42 hours must be from upper-level courses.
