English, M.A.

About this Program

The Master of Arts in English trains graduate students for independent research and  expression in English topics, as well as exposing students to intensive literary study. A master’s degree in English builds upon critical thinking and cultural awareness raised in undergraduate study.

Students may choose from two degree tracks, either thesis or non-thesis, depending upon each individual’s educational and professional goals.

Designed to prepare students for teaching, further graduate work, creative writing, or related writing and research fields, the 37-hour MA in English is available entirely online. Students may take courses in American literature, British literature, creative writing, literary theory, 17th and 18th century writing, Romanticism, and teaching English as a Second Language.

Requirements

A Master of Arts degree in English requires 37 course hours. A total of six hours must be from a thesis or non-thesis track.
