Bio

Jesús Romero is a native of Monterrey, Mexico. He serves as Associate Professor of Spanish in the School of Languages and Literature in Plainview, Texas.  He has been in higher education since 1993. Dr. Romero has been the recipient of the Who's Who Among America's Teachers award in the years 1998, 2000, 2002, 2003-2004, and 2005-2006.  He also received the Excellence in Teaching award from Howard Payne University in 1998 and 2002, and the Fermín Flores Full Time Professor of the Year Award in 2014 from Baptist University of the Américas in San Antonio, Texas. 

Dr. Romero holds a B.A. degree in Spanish Language and Literature from Monterrey Tech (I.T.E.S.M.), an M.A. degree in Spanish from New Mexico State University, and a Ph.D. in Spanish from the University of Arizona. His academic areas of interest are Hispanic-American and Chican@ culture, literature and film.

Dr. Romero also serves as Director of the Immigration Service and Aid Center (ISAAC Project), a ministry of Texas Baptists. Dr. Romero received his partial  accreditation from the Board of Immigration Appeals on April 22, 2013. The ISAAC Project provides legal services to immigrants at low cost.

Dr. Romero enjoys good books, good films and good food. He  is married to Elsa Laura and has been blessed with three children: David, Ana Laura and Daniel Alejandro.
