About this Program

The art education degree is an interdisciplinary program that requires study in both the School of Education and the School of Fine Arts and leads to a Texas state teaching certificate that qualifies holders to teach art courses in Early Childhood through 12th grade.

The art education degree program provides students opportunities to gain experience from tutoring or assistant teaching, as well as extensive training through field-based observation. To best prepare for a career in the classroom, art education majors often prepare and deliver unit presentations in class.

To help them fully embrace the interdisciplinary nature of the art education program, majors enhance their learning experience through membership in the student organizations in both the School of Education and the School of Fine Arts.

Students seeking a bachelor’s degree in art education will complete 39 hours of upper-level study compiled from professional education courses like Classroom Management and field

A Degree in Education requires a 124 course hours.  Students in the all-level art must pass a state content area art test prior to student teaching.  39 course hours of art are required.
