About this Program

Wayland’s sociology degree program introduces students to the real-world aspects of social work and social justice through a wide range of courses.

With a focus on how social and cultural forces impact behavior, students seeking a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology study topics such as social inequality, racial and gender issues, rape and human trafficking, and human nature.

Through these studies and special practicum courses, students are prepared for graduate study and social work social work careers in areas such as women’s protective services and child protective services. Students seeking a sociology degree must take 30 hours in their major field of study, 27 of which must be upper division.

Students pursuing a major in this field will takes courses like Social Problems, Human Behavior and Social Environment, and Cultural Diversity. Students will also fulfill a practicum that includes supervised field experience with community agencies, emphasizing integration of theory and practice in social work in order to complete their sociology degree.

Requirements

A Bachelor of Science Degree in Sociology  requires 124 semester hours. A total of 30 hours in sociology are required, 27 must be upper-level.
