About this Program
Wayland’s Social Studies Degree composite certifies students who are interested in teaching economics, geography, history, and political science courses in Texas, grades 7-12. Offered both online and face to face, students engage in an array of courses.
Along with the required core curriculum, students seeking this composite degree take 48 hours in their major field, including three upper-division U.S. history courses and three upper-division courses in other histories.
The general curriculum includes geology, political science, economics, and various other histories. Students seeking to teach with their Social Studies Degree need to also consider requirements from the School of Education.

Requirements
A Bachelor of Science majoring in Social Studies Composite 124. Students must pass the state content area social studies (grades 7-12) test prior to clinical teaching. 48 semester hours with *9 hours from the general education core.
