About this Program

Wayland’s history minor allows students to complement their major of choice and explore the vast and complex world of historical studies. Through Wayland’s minor program, students can choose from a wide array of classes, focusing on different countries and different topic.

The history minor requires 18 hours of coursework, six of which must be upper-level courses.

History minors enjoy the attention of professors in small-sized classes, which encourage discussion while students explore a range of topics. Minors can expect courses like World Civilization and United States history, and other upper-level topics such as Texas history, Medieval European history, environmental history, genealogy, and more.


The History minor requires 18 semester hours, of which 6 must be upper-level. *Six hours are included in the general education core curriculum.

Organizations - Phi Alpha Theta

  • Phi Alpha Theta is the National Honor Society in History, which seeks to recognize scholastic excellence in the field of history.
  • Members have the opportunity to present papers and participate in regional and state meetings.
  • The Zeta Iota chapter of Phi Alpha Theta at Wayland Baptist University is the oldest chartered chapter in the region.
  • Membership is subject to the following qualifications: 12 semester hours of history, a GPA greater than 3.0 in history courses, and an overall GPA of 3.0
