S984 Academic Advisor - Fairbanks

LOCATION: Wayland Baptist University (WBU) – Fairbanks Campus, Eielson AFB

SUPERVISED BY: Executive Director/Campus Dean

POSITION CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt

POSITIONS SUPERVISED BY: None

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: The Academic Advisor provides competent academic advising for undergraduate and graduate students at the Eielson AFB location.

SPECIFIC TASKS AND DUTIES: 

  1. Advise students regarding WBU academic programs.
  2. Prepare preliminary and official degree plans from evaluations of previous military and academic credit.
  3. Advise students regarding courses needed to apply toward their degree plans.
  4. Register students for classes. Process paperwork for adds, drops, and withdrawals.
  5. Assist in graduation ceremonies for WBU.
  6. Advise students of financial aid programs to include Spouse TA, Federal Aid, and Alaska Student Loan.
  7. Attend public relations events.
  8. Assist with administrative tasks as requested.
  9. Work with Dean to audit graduating seniors.
  10. Does TA and VA billing for the Eielson AFB office
  11. Answer phones.
  12. Coordinate WBU schedule and activities with Education Center.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, Certification and License:

Bachelors Degree in ­business, counseling or related field.

Experience and Knowledge:

1. Experience advising students in an academic setting preferred.
2. Principles, methods, and procedures for career counseling and guidance.

Skills and Abilities:

  1. Must be people-service centered.
  2. Possess strong administrative skills.
  3. Ability to juggle multiple tasks is essential.
  4. Demonstrate commitment to the mission of the university.
  5. Possess good PC skills and experience in Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.
  6. Possess good communication skills but verbal and written skills plus good listening skills.
  7. Possess good organizational skills and must be detail oriented.
  8. Understand and interpret personnel policies and procedures.
  9. Prioritize tasks. Flexible and available to work extended hours as needed.
  10. Ability to follow directions and work cooperatively with others.

 

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Employment is subject to an introductory period to monitor employee performance.   If hired, the prospective employee must present documentation within three (3) days of hire date to establish their identity and employment eligibility as required by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).  Employee must be able and willing to travel.  Must be able to operate a licensed motor vehicle, have access to a dependable motor vehicle, and possess a valid state driver’s license.  Must have and maintain a satisfactory driver’s record.
