General Accounting Specialist

LOCATION: Wayland Baptist University (WBU) - Plainview Campus 

DEPARTMENT: Business Office 




GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: The General Accounting Specialist is responsible for handling and reconciling multiple accounts and processes in various categories throughout the University system.


  1. Reconcile monthly credit card deposits from MasterCard, Visa, Discover and American
  2. Reconcile monthly the Main Depository bank account for all external campuses and send bank statements to each campus monthly.
  3. Reconcile monthly the bank accounts for WBU’s external campuses.
  4. Post federal financial aid to student
  5. Upload check disbursement registers daily to the bank.
  6. Post monthly earnings reports.
  7. Post write off payments received from collection agencies to Great Plains.
  8. Assist with registration events.
  9. Assist in preparation for the annual financial
  10. Maintain orderly files for each area listed
  11. Provide back-up support to various positions in the Business Office as
  12. Other duties as assigned.

  1. High School Diploma or GED.
  2. Bachelor's Degree in a business-related field with an emphasis in accounting is
  3. Work experience in accounting will also be given
  4. Work experience in an office setting is required

Experience and Knowledge:

  1. Three (3) years of office experience and related accounting work is preferred.
  2. Two (2) years customer service experience is preferred.

 Skills and Abilities:

  1. Possess strong organizational skills.
  2. Be able to multi-task.
  3. Exercise excellent phone etiquette
  4. Display excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  5. Possess exceptional interpersonal communication skills.
  6. Knowledge of MS Office, such as Word, Excel and Outlook.
  7. Demonstrate the ability to work independently on assigned tasks
  8. Willing to accept direction on given assignments
  9. Able to work collectively with office co-workers.
  10. Be punctual
  11. Must be customer service driven
  12. Demonstrate professional appearance


Employment is subject to an introductory period to monitor employee performance. Must be able to operate a licensed motor vehicle, have access to a dependable motor vehicle, and possess a valid state driver's license. Must have and maintain a satisfactory driver's record.
