Communications Manager

LOCATION: Wayland Baptist University (WBU) – Plainview Campus

DEPARTMENT: Marketing and Communication

SUPERVISED BY: Executive Director of Marketing

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: The Communications Manager is responsible for daily coordination of activities relating to the university's communications. Activities include media relations, website content updates, writing for internal and external communications, design of print materials, and membership on community or university committees as appointed by the administration.                                                                                                                                                          

SPECIFIC TASKS AND DUTIES: 

  • Research and write press releases, and content for the company website, infographics, blogs, and newsletters in a timely manner.
  • Acquire and maintain a detailed knowledge of the company’s policies, principles, and strategies, and keep up-to-date with relevant developments.
  • Assist with arranging and coordinating press conferences, and planning events.
  • Work with key internal role-players to brainstorm content ideas, in line with the company’s strategy and in support of various brand initiatives.
  • Creative writing and liaison for GivingMD fundraising group.
  • Create branded copy for printed materials as needed.
  • Design of printed materials using Adobe Creative Suite
  • Adhere to the company’s style guide and branding, ensuring that we produce a high-quality and error-free copy.
  • Support and evaluate results of communication campaigns with the team.
  • Build and maintain relationships with area journalists and key external role-players.
  • Develop and implement a communication strategy that includes media outreach
  • Assist with website updates and social media content creation when needed.
  • Assist with articles for newsletters and university yearbook.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in journalism, public relations, communications, or similar field

Experience and Knowledge:

Two (2) year’s experience in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or related field.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficiency with software especially Adobe Creative Cloud design suite and Microsoft Office 365.
  • Good written and interview communication skills.
  • Excellent journalistic skills.
  • Excellent project management skills.
  • Ability to work well with various people.
  • Content writing experience for all media platforms is a plus.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Employment is subject to an introductory period to monitor employee performance. If hired, the prospective employee must present documentation within three (3) days of hire date to establish their identity and employment eligibility as required by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Employ must be willing to travel if necessary.
