Admissions Specialist

LOCATION: Wayland Baptist University (WBU) – Plainview Campus 

DEPARTMENT: Admissions

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:  The Undergraduate Admission Specialist is responsible for representing the Office of Admission to all of the university constituents in a positive manner.  The successful Undergraduate Admission Specialist exhibits superior customer service and communication skills as well as professionalism throughout daily interactions with prospective students and family members.

SPECIFIC TASKS AND DUTIES: 

  1. At all times conducts him/herself with integrity and honesty and in a manner consistent with the mission of the university
  2. Processes undergraduate applications and new student materials in Slate
  3. Packages and sends acceptance materials as students are admitted to Wayland’s Plainview campus.
  4. Answers phones in the multi-line system, answering the questions of prospective students, applicants, professors, administrators, and members of the larger Wayland community. Addresses concerns or send phone calls to appropriate personnel in an effort to completely address the concerns of the callers.
  5. Supervise student workers and assigns them daily and long-term tasks. Maintains paperwork pertaining to their employment, especially concerning payroll.
  6. Assist in the planning and coordination of prospective student events such as Pioneer Preview, New Pioneer Orientation & Registration.
  7. Orders and maintains supplies for the office; organizes materials and supplies in storage locations.
  8. Works in conjunction with other WBU offices to provide superior incoming student experiences
  9. Assists Assistant Director & Enrollment Coaches in managing social media accounts.
  10. Assists in placement test scheduling for students prior to registration

 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

  1. High School Diploma or GED required.
  2. Some college work preferred.

Experience and Knowledge:

Two years of proven office setting experience.

Skills and Abilities:

  1. Two years of proven computer experience.
  2. Ability to meet public and work well with others.
  3. Outstanding communication skills, both written and oral.
  4. Meticulous attention to detail.
  5. Ability to learn and retain vast amounts of information from a wide variety of sources.
  6. Ability to be a positive force in the office by portraying a positive attitude toward other office personnel, in phone conversation and in students, family, faculty and staff members.
  7. Punctuality, dependability, integrity, honesty and loyalty in the performance of duties of the position.
  8. A commitment to Christian Higher Education and in agreement with the purposes and philosophy of Christian Higher Education as promoted by the Baptist General Convention of Texas generally, and Wayland Baptist University

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Employment is subject to an introductory period to monitor employee performance.   If hired, the prospective employee must present documentation within three (3) days of hire date to establish their identity and employment eligibility as required by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).  Employee must be able and willing to travel and teach at external campuses.  Must be able to operate a licensed motor vehicle, have access to a dependable motor vehicle, and possess a valid state driver’s license.  Must have and maintain a satisfactory driver’s record.
