Part Time Assistant Coach of Men's Basketball

LOCATION: Wayland Baptist University (WBU) – Plainview Campus

SUPERVISED BY: Head Basketball Coach & Athletic Director 

POSITION CLASSIFICATION: Non Exempt 

POSITIONS SUPERVISED BY THIS POSITION:  Student Assistant and Team Manager                                                             

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: The Part Time Assistant Coach of Men’s Basketball is responsible for assisting the Head Coach and Assistant Coach with the Varsity and Junior Varsity Basketball programs.

SPECIFIC TASKS AND DUTIES: 

  1. Assist with the coordination and recruiting of student-athletes who have the ability and potential, athletically and academically, to achieve success at WBU.
  2. Be instrumental in leading team members to attain Christian growth and high ethical and moral standards.
  3. Assist the Basketball Coaches with planning and organizing the Junior Varsity Basketball program.
  4. Assist in the planning and organizing of the Varsity Basketball program.
  5. Adhere to all policies and procedures of the NAIA and the Sooner Athletic Conference.
  6. Assist in the arrangement of pre-participation physicals and for securing all pre-participation forms as required by the Athletics Department policy for eligibility purposes.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

  1. Bachelors in Exercise & Sport Science or closely related field is preferred

Experience and Knowledge:

  1. Experience in High School/College basketball is preferred
  2. Collegiate Coaching and/or Playing Experience is preferred.                                                                                  

  Skills and Abilities:

  1. Possess good PC skills and experience in word processing, spreadsheet and database experience.
  2. Be able to communicate with the team in practice and competition.
  3. Possess written and oral communication skills and be able to communicate with a variety of constituents.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Employment is subject to an introductory period to monitor employee performance.   If hired, the prospective employee must present documentation within three (3) days of hire date to establish their identity and employment eligibility as required by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).  Employee must be able and willing to travel and teach at external campuses.  Must be able to operate a licensed motor vehicle, have access to a dependable motor vehicle, and possess a valid state driver’s license.  Must have and maintain a satisfactory driver’s record.
