Instructor/Assistant Professor of Political Science

LOCATION: Wayland Baptist University (WBU) – Plainview Campus (Begins Fall 2022)

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: As a full-time faculty member, Assistant/Associate Professor of Political Science will be primarily responsible for teaching undergraduate courses in political science and also graduate courses in public administration, both face to face and online.


  1. Prepare and teach 24 semester hours of courses each academic year.
  2. Provide academic advising for undergraduate students and assist with registrations and recruiting events.
  3. Assist the Dean in guiding the undergraduate political science program, reporting data, selecting textbooks, and developing syllabi.
  4. Maintain a minimum of 10 office hours/week.
  5. Serve on University, Faculty, and School Committees and attend graduations, school events, and attend scheduled faculty and staff meetings.

Ph.D. from a regionally accredited institution of higher education in political science, public administration or closely related fields is preferred. ABD candidates will also be considered.

Skills and Abilities:

  1. Qualifications to teach political science and public administration classes at the undergraduate and graduate level.  Additionally, preference will be given to applicants with one or more of the following qualifications:
  2. Successful teaching experience.
  3. Practical experience in the field
  4. Recent successful experience using technology in the teaching/learning process and/or on-line delivery of education.
  5. The ability to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities
  6. Proficiency with computers, technology, and related educational/classroom equipment; 
  7. A strong interest in teaching and leading in the growth and development of undergraduate students
  8. The ability and desire to apply Christian principles in the workplace

  1. Endorsement by the Vice President of Academic Affairs
  2. Must be able to pass Background Checks.


Employment is subject to an introductory period to monitor employee performance.   If hired, the prospective employee must present documentation within three (3) days of hire date to establish his/her identity and employment eligibility as required by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).  Must be able to operate a licensed motor vehicle, have access to a dependable motor vehicle, and possess a valid state driver’s license.  Must have and maintain a satisfactory driver’s record.
