Wayland recently hosted a "Heroes to Hometowns" meeting held at our WBU building in Tucson. This is a non-profit organization whose goal is to assist severely injured soldiers as they reacclimatize to their communities. It is a very difficult and challenging task.
We were privileged to listen to a presentation by the leader of this group - Kathy Pearce. She became involved because her son is one of the injured soldiers returning home. He was in a vehicle that was hit by a roadside bomb and he lost both legs and part of an arm. He spent two and a half years in hospitals recovering. Even today, Kathy says they never know if a day will be a "good" one or a "bad" one for him.
