Spanish Degree

Why Spanish?
Spanish is important because of the proximity of our Spanish-speaking neighbors. It is necessary to form close, clear, cultural, and commercial ties with them. The courses in Spanish are planned to give the students an insight into Latin America, its Spanish origins, and its diversified national developments, as well as a foundation for efficient communication skills in the Spanish language.

Spanish Student Profile
My name is Amy Rendon and I am a senior Spanish major from Midland, Texas.  One of the main reasons I choose to major in Spanish Major was because of my mother’s huge impact on my life and the life of my community.  She works at a non-profit organization, Casa de Amigos; it helps to meet a variety of needs, especially for the Hispanic community.  My mom and her fellow co-workers’ drive to impact Hispanics’ lives made me realize that I want to give as well.  Through my education I want to serve as a certified translator/interpreter for foreign missions in Latin America, and also, after graduation, further my education in graduate school to become a certified Bilingual Speech Pathologist.  My goal is to open my own practice and help Spanish-speaking children and adults overcome their speaking disabilities.

I love being here at Wayland!  I especially appreciate the faculty and staff who, through various ways, encourage me to achieve my educational goals.  I enjoy going to class and seeing myself improve everyday!  I have come to understand that learning is a privilege, and I am so thankful that Wayland has caught on to a bigger vision for students like me who want to impact the world in which we live.
