Release Date: January 8, 2010

PLAINVIEW – The Wayland Baptist University Academy of Fine Arts will hold its spring registration on Tuesday, Jan. 12, from 4-7 p.m. in the Harral Fine Arts Center. The AFA offers music training for interested children from birth to age 14.

This spring, AFA offerings include continued activities for students through the Children’s Chorus of Plainview, Music Together classes and private lessons. Classes will begin in mid-January.

The Children’s Chorus of Plainview provides opportunities for students to advance their choral singing skills and to perform throughout the community. Students ages 8-14 must audition for the CCP, which rehearses on Mondays from 4:30-5:45 p.m. Led by WBU Assistant Professor of Music Debbie Buford, the group provides enrichment opportunities for students who love to sing. Registration cost for CCP is $75. The discounted fee is due to scholarships provided through a generous grant from the Lubbock Area Foundation. For more information, contact Buford at 291-1075, or by email at bufordd@wbu.edu.

Children from birth to age 6 can register for Music Together classes that offer a new drum song curriculum. Classes run for 45 minutes and are offered at various times during the week. Licensed Music Together instructors Alexis Hall and Casey Brazell teach the classes. The curriculum provides a solid framework for continued music learning through singing, movement, improvisation, conducting and the development of listening skills. Registration is $90 for the course, plus a $37 charge for music and equipment. Families receive a song booklet and two music CDs. Discounts are available for families with siblings enrolled in the program. For more information, call 292-4312, or email alexis.hall@Wayland.wbu.edu.

The AFA will continue to offer weekly private lessons in piano, guitar, voice, percussion and other instruments depending on the availability of instructors. Private lessons are $150 per semester. For more information, contact Dr. Ann Stutes at 291-1065 or by email at stutesa@wbu.edu.
