betenbough homes continues giving pattern to Wayland lubbock campus

Release Date: March 11, 2009

LUBBOCK – Betenbough Homes of Lubbock recently awarded a $30,000 grant to the Wayland Baptist University campus in Lubbock for scholarships. The gift brings Betenbough’s support for WBU Lubbock to $280,000 for the past five years.

The scholarships are designated for students with financial need who are majoring in religion and have given their lives to proclaiming the gospel through their churches and in the community. The hope is that Wayland graduates in religion will be able to fill the shortage of ministers to lead rural churches in West Texas and beyond.

This year’s grant will benefit 15 students, each receiving $500 grants for four terms.
Betenbough Homes Scholarship

“We believe God has called Betenbough Homes to assist Wayland in equipping an army of young men and women to launch out into the world and reach many with the Good News of Christ. We pray that each seed planted will produce an abundant harvest for the Kingdom,” says Holly Betenbough, ministry director at Betenbough Homes. “Wayland does an excellent job of meeting the students where they are and offering a quality program catered to their individual needs.  The students graduate and go on to make an impact in the Kingdom.”

“In using the Betenbough funds, it is our desire to see religion majors understand the fullness of Christ revealed to them through the teaching of Godly men and women who are filled with the Holy Spirit,” said Dr. Kent Brooks, director of development for WBU-Lubbock.

According to Wayland officials, 75 percent of the students who have been awarded the scholarship are serving in pastoral positions in the Lubbock area. A survey of those same students showed an active participation in evangelistic efforts, with 23 students led to salvation in Christ during the year and many others led to a closer walk with God. The scholarship has helped students pursue education and maintain their ministry.

“I have had the benefit to experience the provision and blessings of God in the contribution from Betenbough Homes towards my education,” said Landon Hayes, a senior pursuing the Bachelor of Christian Ministry. “The body of Christ should operate in a way that we aid and compensate each other when necessary or even just desired. It is not only the job of the institutional church to meet people’s needs, but rather the obligation of the Universal Church to hunger to meet those needs. This unfortunately is a rarity, but as in the case of Betenbough Homes, when the body of Christ acts Christ-like then God’s glory is revealed. I am blessed by the ministry they provide and hope that I too can provide such a blessing to others.”
