Alumni needing info on deceased with Wayland ties

Release Date: October 10, 2008

PLAINVIEW – As part of Wayland Baptist University’s Centennial Celebration, the Office of Alumni Services is seeking the public’s help on a special project.

“We would like to place a small Wayland flag on the graves of all graduates and former students, administration, faculty and staff at least once during the Centennial year and possibly more than once,” said Danny Andrews, Director of Alumni Development.

The university’s founder, Dr. J.H. Wayland, is buried in the old Plainview Cemetery and a large flag flies near his grave, and those of other family members, from time to time.

“While we have burial records on some folks who have been associated with Wayland, they certainly are not comprehensive,” Andrews said.

“We would appreciate hearing from anyone who has a relative or friend with Wayland ties, including their full name and as detailed information as possible on where they are buried – in Plainview Cemetery, Plainview Memorial Park, or Parklawn Memorial Gardens (south of the city),” said Andrews.

That information may be mailed to: Danny Andrews, Wayland Baptist University, 1900 W. Seventh, CMB 437, Plainview, Texas 79072; e-mailed to andrewsd@wbu.edu; or phoned to 806-291-3603.

“This information will certainly be helpful to us as we seek to recognize deceased members of our Wayland family, especially during the Centennial year,” Andrews said.
