Rector-Wright to be honored by WBU SIFE team

PLAINVIEW – Dr. Ruth Rector-Wright will be honored as one of three Women in Business Award winners during a banquet hosted by the Students in Free Enterprise team at Wayland Baptist University on Aug. 30.

              A family physician, Wright has been in private practice with her husband Dr. David Wright since 1990. She is currently president of the Hale County Medical Society, a position she also held from 1992-93 after serving as vice president from 1991-92.

              Wright holds a bachelor of science degree from Arizona State University and earned her doctor of osteopathy degree from the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine in Fort Worth. She completed her internship at Womack Army Hospital in Fort Bragg, N.C., and did two years of residency at Womack as well in family practice. She is a board certified member of the American Academy of Family Physicians.

              Aside from her medical practice, Wright has been an assistant professor at University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill and was on the faculty at Womack Army Hospital during her residency. She served as director of the Irving Clinic from 1987-90.

              A member of the American Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology since 2001, Wright is also an active community member. She serves on the board of the Wee Care Child Care Center and the Hale County Hospital Authority Board, is on the medical executive committee at Covenant Hospital and is in the booster club for the PHS tennis team and Bulldog cheerleaders. She is also treasurer for the Plains Art Association.

              She enjoys watercolor painting, exercise and spending time with her family. She and husband David have three daughters: Rachel, 23, Laura, 21 and Emily, 17. She is a member of First Baptist Church.

              The SIFE Women in Business banquet is slated for 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 30 in Room 211 of the McClung University Center on the WBU campus. Tickets are $15 per person, which includes a buffet dinner and the awards presentation program, featuring Carolyn Baker, executive vice president of Hale County State Bank as keynote speaker.

              Other 2007 honorees include Jan Alford, State Farm agent, and Sandra Aven, publisher of the Plainview Daily Herald.
