NOMINATIONS, TESTIMONIES NEEDED FOR Wayland

CENTENNIAL

Release Date: March 30, 2007

PLAINVIEW – Planning for Wayland Baptist University's centennial celebration is well underway, and the calendar of the year's events is nearly set. But organizers are calling on alumni and community supporters to help with two specific projects.

One is the Wayland 100 list, which will include the 100 most influential persons in the university's history. The other is a compilation of testimonies about the spiritual impact that Wayland has had on students during their time in school and others in the community.

"We're working on several pieces that will include recognition of both people who influenced Wayland and how the university has affected students on the spiritual level," explained Teresa Young, director of communications and vice-chair of the event under chair Hope English, director of student leadership and involvement. "We want to make sure our celebration involves as many people as possible and honors those who have helped make Wayland the place it is today, which of course includes God's work in students' lives."

For the Wayland 100 list, Young said anyone is welcome to make nominations for the list. Along with the nominee's name, nominators should include some brief description about who the person was or what they did that makes them deserving of the honor. Once the final list is compiled, honorees will be recognized at key centennial events and their names and short bios included in several print pieces as well as on the web site.

Micheal Summers, director of church services at Wayland, will compile the spiritual testimonies into a format that can be added to by future generations of WBU students as a gathering of evidence of the powerful impact of Christian institutions on young men and women. Some of those testimonies may also be used in different publications associated with the centennial.

General remembrances and personal testimonies about how WBU helped alums pursue their dreams are needed as well for various print projects planned as part of the centennial promotions.

Nominations for Wayland 100 and general memories can be sent by email to youngt@wbu.edu or mailed to Young at the university, 1900 W. 7th Street, Plainview, Texas 79072. Spiritual impact testimonies may be sent to Summers at the same mailing address or by email to summersm@wbu.edu.
