Alford to be honored by WBU SIFE team

PLAINVIEW – Jan Alford will be honored as one of three Women in Business Award winners during a banquet hosted by the Students in Free Enterprise team at Wayland Baptist University on Aug. 30.

              An agent with State Farm Insurance since 2005, Alford has lived in Plainview since 1987. She is a graduate of Canyon High School and West Texas State University, where she earned a bachelor of business administration degree.

              Before starting her State Farm agency, Alford worked at Hale County State Bank and then fulfilled a lifelong dream of becoming an investment representative by taking a position at Norwest Bank, now Wells Fargo Bank. She then began an investment business with Edward Jones in Plainview before taking the opportunity to open her own insurance agency.

              Alford and her husband, Scott, have two sons: Riley, 13, and Harrison, 12. She is a member of First United Methodist Church and Soroptimist International of Plainview and serves on the board of the Plainview Chamber of Commerce and the Salvation Army.

              The SIFE Women in Business banquet is slated for 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 30 in Room 211 of the McClung University Center on the WBU campus. Tickets are $15 per person, which includes a buffet dinner and the awards presentation program, featuring Carolyn Baker, executive vice president of Hale County State Bank as keynote speaker.

              Other 2007 honorees include Dr. Ruth Rector-Wright, family physician, and Sandra Aven, publisher of the Plainview Daily Herald.
