DeMerritt Promoted to Assistant Executive Vice President

PLAINVIEW – Stan DeMerritt, who has served as Registrar for Wayland Baptist University since since 2000, has been promoted to Assistant Executive Vice President.

DeMerritt, a 1987 graduate of Artesia (N.M.) High School, holds an associate degree from New Mexico State University, as well as bachelor degrees in business and religion, and a master of education degree in business administration from Wayland. DeMerritt completed his master’s degree in 1998 and is currently working toward a doctorate in higher education at Texas Tech University.

DeMerritt served as associate registrar, including three months as interim registrar, at Wayland from 1997-1999. He accepted a position as registrar at Plainview High School in 1999 before returning to Wayland in January of 2000.

As Assistant Executive Vice President, DeMerritt will work directly with Executive Vice President Dr. Bill Hardage. His job duties will include extensive work with Wayland’s 13 external campuses and the Office of Institutional Research.

As well as the home campus in Plainview, Wayland operates campuses in Lubbock, Amarillo, Wichita Falls, and San Antonio, Texas; Clovis and Albuquerque, N.M.; Altus, Okla.; Fairbanks and Anchorage, Ak.; Phoenix and Sierra Vista, Ariz.; Aiea, Hawaii; and Kenya, Africa.

“Stan’s background and experience has prepared him for this move up,” Hardage said. “He has extensive experience with our campuses ranging from dean’s meetings to general registrar functions. He has the skills necessary to add to our research and supervision of external campus work.”

DeMerritt will begin his new position on Feb. 15.

“I am looking to create better communication with our external campuses as well as explore education opportunities for our non-traditional students,” DeMerritt said. “I am also looking forward to assisting the university in moving forward with our strategic plan.”

DeMerritt is the son of Steve and Sharon DeMerritt and son-in-law of Joseph and Charlotte Schiel, all of Artesia.
